Experts and insiders agree: Apple’s iPhone X was just the beginning of a new era for Apple products. As many of Apple’s recent patents suggest, the Mac and MacBook will be among the next products that Apple fundamentally redesigns.
That’s why we at Handy Abo Vergleich have created an extremely detailed concept of the next-generation MacBook Pro based on current rumors, official patent applications, and expert opinions.
It’s meant to give us a good idea of what we can expect from Apple very soon.

Mac with Face ID and a touchscreen: The rumors surrounding the device

It is well known that Apple is working on a Mac computer with Face ID. Just a few days ago , the California-based company was granted patents that would allow it to build invisible infrared sensors into MacBooks. Patents from the summer of 2017 show that Apple is even working on gesture controls for Macs. In addition to Face ID and a 3D camera, however, a touchscreen could also be coming to the new MacBooks. Even Apple executives themselves havepublicly admitted in the past that the company has already been tinkering with touchscreen MacBooks in the lab.

We have years of experience in concept development

Our team of designers and Apple experts has already brought several concepts to life that ended up looking strikingly similar to the original Apple products released later. Our concepts are intended to provide a realistic preview of what we can expect from Apple. For example , over a year ago , our iPhone concept accurately predicted the current iPhone X design and its features almost 100%.

Our concept for the iPhone X is very close to the real thing—it was published as early as January 13, 2017! Official Apple release: November 6, 2017.

This is our MacBook Touch concept

The focus is clearly on the completely new display and the touch screen on the bottom, which replaces the keyboard. The result is a MacBook that is fundamentally new and looks extremely modern, yet still retains the look and feel of the popular Apple computer. It can be seen as the next generation of the 2016 MacBook Pro Retina. In the following paragraphs, we will discuss the concept’s features in detail.

A quick overview of the facts and features of our MacBook Touch concept:

  • 17-inch Super Retina display with a narrow bezel
  • Built-in Face ID: Face Recognition and Gesture Control for macOS
  • Touch Keyboard with built-in dock and Touch Bar 2
  • Full Apple Pencil support for the touchscreen
  • Edge-to-edge trackpad with improved Force Touch
  • Speakers twice as large in the enclosure
  • Thinner case with USB-C

The new display: Edge-to-edge OLED + Face ID facial recognition

Our designer has equipped the MacBook Touch with a Retina OLED display featuring the same high resolution as before, but now in an even larger format thanks to thevirtually non-existent bezels. This means a 17-inch display fits seamlessly into a form factor similar to that of today’s 15-inch MacBook Pros.

In addition to the larger size and thinner display bezels , a TrueDepth camera is built into the status and menu bar at the top. This finally brings Face ID to the Mac. We’re already familiar with this 3D camera from the iPhone X, where it enables features such as Face ID unlocking and payment authentication. The same is now possible on the MacBook Touch.

Huge Touch Screen for the MacBook: Touch Keyboard, Apple Pencil Support, and More

Our MacBook Touch is the first Apple laptop with two large displays: in addition to the main display, there is a second, unobtrusive OLED screen at the bottom that, among other things, displays the entire keyboardvirtually. 3D Touch for haptic key feedback is also built in. Furthermore, the Apple Pencil is natively supported for creative possibilities and applications.

Above the Touch Keyboard, users will find the improved Touch Bar 2 and, for the first time, a Touch Dock. This allows you to launch apps or switch between open apps with just a single tap , no matter where you are .

Other features: Thinner case, new speakers, new trackpad

Less noticeable, but still worth mentioning, are the following features of our concept: The MacBook Touch is much thinner than previous MacBook Pro models. The speakers and trackpad, on the other hand, are larger. Both are nearly twice as big as in the current MacBook Pro Retina. This results in a significantly more comfortable user experience with swipe gestures and clicks anywhere on the chassis. The speakers also deliver an incredible boom sound and deep bass.

Conclusion: A worthy successor and the future of the MacBook Pro Retina

The MacBook Pro Retina, introduced in 2012, has been updated slightly almost every year since then and didn’t receive a minor redesign until 2016. With new technologies now coming of age, another redesign in the next year or two is not unlikely. Our concept shows what such a redesign might look like. We consider a bezel-less display and the introduction of Face ID on the MacBook to be very likely. A touchscreen that replaces the keyboard is also quite conceivable in the near future.
